RSP Live - Arkhangelsk

RSP LIVE Tournament

The tournament took place on the 5th of January, 2008 in the “Paratov” poker club.

The first RSP Live tournament took place in Arkhangelsk, the homeland of the best poker player of Europe-2007, Alex Kravchenko.

The tournament took place in the “Paratov” poker club. This is the only place to host poker contests in the city. A new regional law, which prohibits the gambling industry, came into force on the 1st of January, 2008. From 5 Arkhangelsk casinos only the “Paratov” poker club has been reoriented into the poker club.

In spite of the official Russian poker youth it is quite popular in Arkhangelsk. More than 20 players visit the club every day. However, only 14 players participated in the RSP Live tournament, 3 of them got their entries by winning freerolls and satellites.

In spite of a small number of participants, the tournament turned out to be dramatic and exciting. And not only for players, but also for spectators who observed the action for nearly 6 hours.

During the tournament each player could increase his/her stack by making either rebuy or addon. As a result the prize winning fund came to the sum of 90.000 rubles. The winner Alexey Kuznetsov got 36.000 rubles. Maxim Brovko took second place and got 27.000 rubles. The “bronze medalist” Igor Berezin grabbed 18.000 rubles. And finally Andrey Chesnokov came fourth and won 9.000 rubles. In addition, 8 final table players got $50 on their Red Star Poker accounts.

Info: Arkhangelsk

The city was founded in 1584 by Ivan the Terrible on the right coast of the Northern Dvina – a wide and lengthy river which flows into the White Sea. Since the time Peter I cut a “window into Europe” (i.e. from the beginning of the seventeenth century till now), Arkhangelsk has been one of the major ports on the north of Russia and the administrative center of the Arkhangelsk region. The population of the city is about 380 000 people now. The city is budgeted mainly by timber industry enterprises.

The main sights of Arkhangelsk are the lengthy quay of the Northern Dvina and the wood architecture museum “Malye Karely”.

Until recently Arkhangelsk has been considered as the homeland of Russian hockey. But now the legendary “Vodnik” club - the repeated champion of Russia and the World Cup winner - experiences a crisis. The city has its outstanding sportsmen in other sports. They are Dmitriy Afanasenkov (Stanley Cup holder, Tampa Bay, NHL), Eugeniy Lagunov (Russian swimming team), Gleb Pisarevskiy (weight, bronze Olympic medallist), sisters Tatyana and Nadejda Kosintseva (chess, Europe Cup gold and bronze medallists). And finally Arkhangelsk is the homeland of one of the most famous Russian poker players, Alex Kravchenko.
